Dennis Keeling Biography

 

Dennis Keeling started turning when he was 9 years old on his dad's lathe extension to his electric drill. However he only really started turning 15 years ago. He began to specialise in segmented turning after spending a week with Bud Latven in 2003 and started to experiment with open segment turning after meeting Jerry Bennett in 2004 He takes great pleasure in pushing the boundaries by experimenting with new segmenting techniques.

He has won many awards for his work at various international competitions including:

  • The Worshipful Company of Turners
  • The International Woodworking Exhibition, Alexandra Palace
  • Woodex, Kenilworth

He regularly writes articles for Woodturning magazine and has been commissioned by GMC, the publishers of Woodturning, to write a book on segmented turning. This is expected to be published by GMC and the Taunton Press in the Autumn of 2011.

He undertakes demonstrations on segmented turning techniques both in the UK and USA. He presented at the 2nd Segmenting Symposium in Tennessee, USA in November 2010

He undertakes training courses on segmented turning on a one-to-one basis in his well equipped workshop. He has bought a second Vicmarc lathe for the purpose. Courses can be organised to suit the clients requirements and skill level from 1 to 3 days.

He is a Freeman of the Worshipful Company of Turners, and a Freeman of the City of London

He is a Director of the Association of Segmented Wood Turners, and a member of the Association of Woodturners in GB (AWGB), the Middlesex Woodturners Association (MWA), the Society of Ornamental Turners (SOT), and the American Association of Woodturners (AAW).
